Sandro, a former midfielder for Tottenham and Brazil, who secured the 2010 Copa Libertadores with Internacional, has ended his retirement to sign with Harborough Town, a club in the Southern League Premier Central. This seventh-tier team recently defeated Tonbridge Angels in the FA Cup on Saturday and is scheduled to face League One Reading in the second round. Sandro, aged 35, transferred to Tottenham from the Brazilian club Internacional in 2010, where he remained for four seasons with the Premier League team. His career also included stints with Queens Park Rangers, West Brom, and Genoa, and he earned 17 caps representing Brazil. Sandro’s last competitive match was in 2020 for the Brazilian side Goias. He had announced his retirement from football in September 2023 via an Instagram post. Harborough manager Mitch Austin expressed that the signing felt “totally unbelievable” and stated he was “gobsmacked” by Sandro’s choice. “I had a chance conversation with Sandro a couple of weeks ago and we got talking about football, I told him about Harborough Town FC and the journey we are on, and he has been messaging me ever since to sign on,” Austin conveyed to the club’s website.
