A council’s agreement to defer its choice regarding the relocation of a bus stop in a Cornish town has been met with celebration by campaigners. Padstow Town Council had previously scheduled the removal of the bus stop situated at the Railway car park on Station Road for 18 November, intending to replace it with an alternative stop approximately half-a-mile (0.8km) distant, citing safety concerns as the reason. A petition advocating for the retention of the bus stop at its existing site, as opposed to establishing a new stop atop a steep incline—a location that would present difficulties for elderly residents and individuals with mobility impairments—garnered over 1,250 signatures. During a meeting held on Tuesday, the town council announced its acceptance of proposals from Cornwall Council and the operator Go Cornwall Bus, thereby extending the timeframe for a resolution until 5 April. The town council stated that throughout this extension period, it intends to collaborate with the county council and the bus company to identify a “mutually acceptable solution” and conduct a “comprehensive review” of the bus stop. Barry West, who serves as the South West region organiser for the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers, assisted in the organization of the petition. He commented: “This will be a positive outcome for the people of Padstow and those that visit.” He added: “I think it’d be lovely in the next 12 months to say Padstow is one of the most accessible places in Cornwall, not one of the least accessible.” Richard Stevens, the managing director of Go Cornwall Bus, remarked: “This decision, supported by our recent letter of intent with Cornwall Council, marks an important step forward in maintaining essential public transport links for local residents and visitors.” The chairperson of Padstow Town Council stated: “It is disappointing that it has taken this long to get to this point but consider the letter of intent a ‘reset’ and one that myself and my council welcome. “We look forward to working together.” Post navigation Christian Perspectives on Donald Trump’s Perceived Divine Mandate Defence Minister Warns British Army Could Be “Expended” in Major Conflict Within Six Months
