BBC Sport has finalized a new five-year agreement to extend its coverage of the Women’s Super League. This deal, effective until 2030, stipulates that the BBC will air 21 live WSL matches each season, commencing with the 2025-26 season. Starting with the 2025-26 season, 14 of these matches will be exclusively broadcast on BBC television, while the remaining seven will be accessible via BBC iPlayer and other BBC digital platforms. Additionally, certain games will be broadcast on BBC Radio 5 Live, BBC Sounds, and local BBC radio stations. Highlights, including goals and clips from every fixture, will be made available on the BBC Sport website, its application, and social media channels. This broadcasting agreement also ensures that Sky Sports will continue to air matches. Alex Kay-Jelski, the director of BBC Sport, commented on the agreement, stating: “It’s great to see the WSL growing and growing and I’m delighted that the BBC is carrying on as a partner on that journey. We remain the most-used sports broadcaster in the UK, providing unparalleled cross-platform coverage, so it’s brilliant to be able to continue bringing the WSL to audiences as part of our free-to-air portfolio.” Nikki Doucet, chief executive of Women’s Professional Leagues Limited (WPLL), remarked: “Agreeing the next cycle of broadcast rights was a priority for us and we are very fortunate to have two premium broadcast partners in Sky Sports and the BBC who believe in the future and value of women’s football as much as we do. The growth of the game is undeniable, and this deal is another step in the right direction and positive news for the fans, the players and the clubs.” Sky is set to exclusively broadcast 78 matches, with an additional 34 matches available on the Women’s Professional Leagues Limited’s (WPLL) YouTube channel. Furthermore, this agreement grants Sky the inaugural rights to broadcast matches from the Women’s Championship and the Women’s League Cup.
