Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal advanced to the quarter-finals of the men’s doubles event at the Paris Olympics. Carlos Alcaraz has stated that securing the Davis Cup title for Rafael Nadal serves as a “huge motivation” for him and will signify the “most special” tournament of his professional career. Nadal, who holds 22 Grand Slam titles, is set to conclude his tennis career following his representation of Spain in the upcoming Davis Cup Finals, scheduled for next week in Malaga. Spain is scheduled to compete against the Netherlands in the quarter-finals on Tuesday, aiming to expand their collection of six titles, with Nadal having contributed to four of those victories. “It’s probably the most special tournament I’ll play in my career, because of what’s happening, because of the circumstances,” commented the 21-year-old Alcaraz, currently ranked third globally. He continued, “The Davis Cup has always been a tournament that I’d love to win one day. I’m passionate about representing Spain.” Alcaraz further added, “Having Rafa by my side, knowing it’s his last tournament, will make it much more special.” Alcaraz’s first appearance in the Davis Cup occurred in 2022, three years subsequent to Spain’s most recent championship win. He and Nadal, who is 17 years his senior, partnered in the doubles event at the Olympics in Paris this summer, where they were eliminated in the quarter-finals. Nadal is set to retire as the second-most accomplished men’s singles player in history, surpassed only by his long-standing competitor, Novak Djokovic. “No player deserves more to finish the incredible career he had with a title, and I know how special the Davis Cup is for him. It will be a difficult challenge but winning it for Rafa is a huge motivation,” Alcaraz communicated to the ATP website. He further stated: “Rafa’s farewell is much more important, at least for me. The Davis Cup is every year. Rafa’s farewell, saying goodbye to a legend of the sport, unfortunately only happens once. Personally I’m very excited to be by Rafa’s side for his farewell.” Post navigation Hearts’ European Exit Prompts Critchley’s Call to Action Amidst Mounting Domestic Concerns EFL Trophy Round-up: Peterborough and Other Teams Secure Last 16 Berths
