An accidental fire in a shed, thought to have been caused by a wood-burning stove, has resulted in the death of a dog. Cleveland Fire Brigade responded to a call on Arkley Cresent in Hartlepool on Tuesday evening. The brigade reported that a dog was discovered deceased at the scene. Additionally, one individual sustained burns and received oxygen therapy for smoke inhalation. According to the fire service, the blaze’s origin was “believed to be accidental” and attributed to an unattended wood-burning stove. The flames originated in a shed situated in a back garden before extending to the exterior of a nearby house. Cleveland Fire Brigade stated that two fire engines from Hartlepool were dispatched to the West View area shortly before 19:00 GMT, and the fire was extinguished by 20:42. The North East Ambulance Service confirmed that one person was transported to the University Hospital of North Tees for further medical attention.
