Alan Barrett, the director of a motorsports engineering course, commended his student team following their podium finish at a national competition. He stated that his West Suffolk College team closely contended with the winning team until the conclusion, describing their third-place achievement as “absolutely fantastic”. For the past three years, the college has participated in the CityCar Cup Championship, where it competes against other colleges and universities throughout the UK. Brady Pollock, a student driver representing the college, also secured the distinction of being the highest-placed novice. This championship provides students with a platform to compete at several of the UK’s most renowned racetracks, such as Silverstone and Snetterton. Students enrolled at the Bury St Edmunds college undertake vehicle preparation as part of their course curriculum, with Pollock subsequently driving the car in the competition. “The students that have actually been involved in doing the preparation and repairing the cars, they’ve actually done really well,” Mr Barrett stated. “They’ve shown what they can do and most of them have gone on and found jobs.” Pollock commented, “It gives me the confidence to push to the next step.” “It shows that we can actually do it, push to the front and challenge the guys that have been doing it for a few more years than we have.” The Haverhill teenager also expressed gratitude to his classmates and the course director for their assistance throughout their motorsport level three course.
