A mother of four expressed that she was “overwhelmed with joy” upon receiving complimentary gifts from a Christmas toy bank. Ayesha was among over 60 parents who selected donated toys at a singular event held in Bracknell, Berkshire, on Saturday. She stated that the presents, which included three bags of toys and two large stuffed animals, had “made Christmas for me and my family”. Four local mothers established the toy bank in 2023 with the aim of alleviating financial burdens on families during the festive season. Ayesha commented: “I’m overwhelmed with joy…”Christmas is so expensive we usually can’t participate.”We’re lucky if we get one gift in the morning. “We only have a Christmas meal because of our extended family.” Guj, another parent, expressed astonishment at the quantity of new and unopened presents available. He remarked: “Our son loves cars but if he gets bored of them we can bring them back next year for another child.” The Bracknell Chrismas Toy Bank was founded by local mothers Cat Bodin, Ashley Pinto, Hannah Beech, and Kate Jordan, following a discussion about decluttering old toys. Ms Bodin stated: “Most of us give things away to charity shops.”But we thought it would be a good idea to have them all in one place so parents could come and choose what they want for free.” Ms Pinto further commented: “Things are expensive and at this time of year it can feel very overwhelming.”I think if you’re prioritising paying your bills and for your food, kids’ toys come lower down the list.” The organizers, who estimate their efforts have assisted 175 children this year, expressed their intention to hold the event again in 2025.
