This weekend, a veteran from East and North Yorkshire is set to represent the region at the Royal British Legion’s Festival of Remembrance in London. Mel Watson, a member of the Royal British Legion’s Hornsea branch, will serve as a standard bearer for the area at the Royal Albert Hall on Saturday. Additionally, Mr. Watson is scheduled to march with the ex-serviceman’s squad during the Remembrance Sunday parade. He expressed his sentiments, stating, “I feel very proud and honoured to be selected to represent not just Hornsea, but the whole county. It’s a great privilege I feel.” Mr. Watson enlisted in the British Army in 1960. His service concluded in 1986, with his final years spent as a Warrant Officer at the trade training school located at Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire. This marks his second occasion representing the region at the festival. Tracy Watson, who served in the RAF for 30 years, will be present to support her father this year. She commented, “I will be extremely proud to see him come down the stairs with his standard.” The Festival of Remembrance is scheduled for Saturday, featuring performances at 14:00 and 19:00 GMT. The Remembrance Day march, referred to as the Cenotaph March Past, is set for Remembrance Sunday and will feature wreath-laying by members of the Royal Family. Mr. Watson stated: “Not only are we talking about people from the First World War, the Second World War, but obviously fresh in the memories of many people now are the conflicts that have taken place since then.“I think it’s very important that we do remember all this and hopefully we don’t have to experience it again.” Post navigation Bugler Niall Roberts Marks 50th Consecutive Last Post Performance Mother “Overwhelmed with Joy” by Christmas Toy Bank Gifts
