A court proceeding revealed that a petrol station employee, who sustained critical injuries while attempting to prevent a motorist from departing without settling a fuel payment, continues to be “in a life-threatening state” a month after the incident. The incident occurred at 02:22 BST on 20 October, when Srisankar Subramanian was injured as a black Audi S3 exited the Esso garage located on Castleford Road in Normanton. Taghan Bal, aged 18, entered a plea of not guilty to the charge of unlawfully and maliciously wounding Mr. Subramanian with the intent to inflict grievous bodily harm during his appearance at Leeds Crown Court on Thursday. The trial is scheduled to commence on 6 May 2025. According to prosecutor Katherine Ryan, Mr. Subramanian remains on life support and is “unable to breathe for himself.” She further stated, “The prognosis isn’t good and there have not yet been attempts to remove the life support.” Bal, identified as an accounting apprentice residing on Wyatts Green Road in Wyatts Green, Essex, also denied charges of dangerous driving, perverting the course of justice, making off without payment, and displaying a false number plate. Aderoju Adeniran, Bal’s 31-year-old co-defendant, admitted guilt to the offenses of making off without payment and displaying a false number plate, but pleaded not guilty to perverting the course of justice. The court was informed that Adeniran, whose address is Central Street, Islington, London, had been returned to prison subsequent to his arrest, having previously been convicted of manslaughter in 2012. His sentencing is scheduled for 20 December.
