Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson, who took up the role in the summer of 2021, has stated that the club intends to compete for the acquisition of high-calibre players should they become accessible during the upcoming January transfer window. Parkinson also confirmed that he engaged in discussions regarding transfers with co-chairman Ryan Reynolds prior to the 2-2 home draw against Cambridge United last Saturday, with additional conversations planned to include fellow owner RobMcElhenney. Currently, Wrexham occupies the third position in League One, trailing leaders Wycombe Wanderers by two points. Wrexham manager Parkinson stated, “We’re not standing still – we’re looking, speaking with agents all the time.” He further elaborated, “We’ve had our eye on the ball for quite a while with the January transfer window in mind.” Parkinson added, “Everybody in this window will be assessing their squad, looking at the market and looking to add quality.” He concluded by saying, “Quite often [with] those quality players, you’ll get two or three clubs competing for that signature. We’ll be in the mix if the right player becomes available.” Ryan Reynolds, known for his role in “Deadpool,” and Rob McElhenney, creator of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” acquired ownership of the club in 2021. Under their tenure, Wrexham has achieved two consecutive promotions, ascending to League One. In October, Wrexham divested a minority stake in the club to the Allyn family, based in New York, who previously owned the global medical device company Welch Allyn for over a century. Parkinson indicated that Reynolds and McElhenney are thoroughly involved in decisions concerning player recruitment. He further elaborated, “With Rob and Ryan, our owners, we’ve always identified the players then explained why we feel player X would improve us, what’s he going to cost, wages and made a case for that.” He concluded, “Then we’ve made the decisions accordingly.” Parkinson emphasized, “They know what we’d like to do but equally we’re not going to do something for the sake of it and that’s really, really important.” He also cautioned, “Sometimes that temptation to go and sign somebody, it can disrupt what you’ve got already and the player you’re bringing in doesn’t significantly improve you.” Parkinson conveyed that Wrexham would maintain a strong position even if they do not make new signings next month. He stated, “If that opportunity comes along, when we see the right player, the right position and the right value then obviously we will do our best to bring somebody in.” He added, “If not we’ve got a good squad. We’ve got players that are not in the team at the moment waiting patiently for their chance.” He further noted, “Looking at the squad in general, we’ve got loan players that are out there that we have the ability to call players back. Some of the loans finish in January so we’ve got to make decisions in that department as well.” Post navigation Swansea City Takeover Nears Completion, Fans Share Expectations Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney Close to Full Fitness
