Rory Smith of The New York Times suggests that Edu’s departure from Arsenal was not due to a disagreement. Instead, Smith indicates that the Brazilian sought a position where he could exert “more impact and more influence.” Smith further commented that he perceives the Gunners as a club now “shaped by Arteta,” which, in his view, diminished the influence of Edu’s role. Concurrently, former Premier League goalkeeper Shay Given views Edu’s exit as “a bit of a rocket for Arsenal,” adding that “from the outside it looked like the perfect match.”
