Cardiff’s number eight, Alun Lawrence, has secured a new long-term contract to remain at the Arms Park. Lawrence, who made his senior Cardiff debut during the 2017-18 season, has accumulated 38 appearances for the club. The 26-year-old Lawrence rejoined Cardiff for the 2023-24 season on an initial short-term agreement, following the dissolution of Jersey Reds. He then secured a permanent deal at the conclusion of the previous season, and has now extended this agreement after a strong beginning to the current season. Cardiff head coach Matt Sherratt commented on the extension, stating, “I’m pleased to extend Alun’s stay at the club, it is something he thoroughly deserves.” Sherratt added, “He is a player who has grasped his second opportunity at the club and has become an invaluable player for us. His performances so far this season speak for themselves.” Lawrence’s commitment follows similar decisions by captain Liam Belcher and centre Ben Thomas, who also recently pledged their futures to Cardiff. Lawrence expressed his satisfaction, stating, “I am incredibly happy to be staying at Cardiff.” He further remarked, “It is no secret how turbulent rugby can be and as someone who has experienced that in the past, I am grateful to have the opportunity to do what I love, at the team I supported as a youngster and came through.”
