John Askey, who previously achieved promotion as manager with Macclesfield Town and York City, has secured a new ‘multi-year’ contract as manager of Truro City, a club in the National League South. The manager, formerly with Macclesfield Town, York City, and Port Vale, took over from Paul Wotton in the summer, following Wotton’s move to Torquay United. Askey’s tenure at Truro has commenced successfully, with him guiding the team to the summit of the sixth tier prior to their recent weekend defeat. Under his leadership, the Tinners have recorded 11 victories and five losses in their 21 league matches. Before Saturday’s 2-0 loss against Maidstone United, they had suffered only one defeat in 12 National League South fixtures. Askey, aged 60, commented to the club website, external, stating, “Things have gone really well and I’m enjoying it,” and adding, “Luckily enough, the board came to me and asked if I would like to stay a little longer and I have obviously said yes.” He further remarked, “I hope we can continue to keep building as Truro have a project and back in the summer, I liked what I saw. “This has been a new experience as I hadn’t managed in this league before, but it is working out well at the moment. However, you are always guarded as it is only half way through the season.” Askey concluded, “Our first priority was to stay up and if we can get another 10 points, then we can secure our position in the league. But we are doing well and if we could get into the play-offs, it would be a remarkable first season for myself.” The team under Askey’s direction has demonstrated strong performance across both offensive and defensive aspects of the game; only one other team has allowed fewer than the 19 goals Truro has conceded this season. Offensively, they feature Tyler Harvey, the league’s leading scorer with 14 goals, alongside his strike partner Jaze Kabia, who has netted 10. Truro City’s executive chairman, Eric Perez, commented, “John has been the key to our success.” Perez continued, “We have the perfect storm at the moment of real togetherness, unity and everyone playing for each other.” He also noted, “We have had great support this season from Cornwall and Truro, to have the third highest average attendance in the division. “It is only up from here and I feel confident now that we have secured John’s services further.” Post navigation Rafael Nadal Concludes Career, Highlighting 14 French Open Victories Rangers’ 3-0 Victory at Ross County: Manager Philippe Clement’s Post-Match Comments
