The legacy of Brighton panto star Jason Sutton, also known as Miss Jason, will be honored with a theatre bearing his name. Mr. Sutton, described as a “phenomenal pantomime dame, drag queen and comedian,” passed away in April after an illness. Mr. Sutton was scheduled to perform as the dame in Sleeping Beauty at the Brighton Family Panto Theatre. This venue is set to be renamed the Jason Sutton Theatre. David Hill, the show’s producer and a friend of Mr. Sutton, will assume the role. David Hill stated that the press night performance would be dedicated to Jason Sutton, with his partner Terry and numerous close friends expected to be present. Mr. Hill commented, “There are subtle references to him throughout the show and I have no doubt that he will be there in spirit.” He further added, “His legacy will be immortalised in the Jason Sutton Theatre, a name that will remind all who pass through its doors of the laughter, joy, and heart he brought to the community.” Miss Jason had a history of performing in pantomimes on stage in Brighton and also made appearances on television programs. Over a 32-year career in drag, he participated in Pride events throughout the UK, featured on television, and created costumes for fellow drag queens. The production of Sleeping Beauty is scheduled to run from December 19 to December 30 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Brighton Metropole hotel, located on Brighton’s seafront.
