Councillors have been informed that a £99 million project to construct a “super bus lane” is facing delays. The construction of a new rapid transit system, which spans Colchester city centre from its northern to eastern parts, was initially anticipated to conclude by late 2024. Essex County Council, which is overseeing the project, now projects its full completion will not occur until spring 2025. According to a spokesperson for the council, the delays are attributed to “a number of issues including additional time needed for ground and drainage works”. This initiative represents one of the most substantial transport schemes underway in the city and also includes the development of facilities for walking and cycling. Tom Cunningham, a Conservative councillor and the cabinet member for highways, infrastructure, and sustainable transport, stated: “We share local people’s frustration at the length of time taken.” He further commented: “While we are disappointed some works need to be undertaken in the new year, we are reaching the final stages of the scheme. “Positively, this has meant we have been able to start reducing traffic management on site.” Earlier in the year, residents residing along the proposed route on Northern Approach Road reported that the scheme had caused damage to their properties. Cunningham also added: “Throughout the works, we have been mindful of the impact on drivers, as well as residents. Over the coming weeks, traffic management will continue to be removed where it is safe and practical to do so.” Post navigation South Korean Constitutional Court Commences Impeachment Trial for President Yoon Shifting Landscape of US Election Fraud Claims After Trump’s Win
