A temporary exhibition showcasing art influenced by dementia is currently hosted at an art gallery. Connor Daly, an artist, developed a collection of still life photographs for ArtHouse Jersey, describing them as a “statement about Alzheimer’s disease.” He stated that the work “is based on a variety of personal experiences with the disease, as well as various cultural references.” Situated at Greve de Lecq Barracks, the exhibition’s central theme is to provide local artists with an opportunity to display their creations and engage with the public. The photographs by Mr. Daly incorporate “memory objects,” which are frequently used in the care of individuals with dementia. He explained, “People who have dementia and are being looked after in care homes will have a memory box with different objects inside.” He added, “I think it is supposed to help cognitive functions. So the series itself is a personal statement but it is based on the 20,000 words I have read on dementia.” Prints of Mr. Daly’s photographic works will be available for purchase at the exhibition, with all funds generated directed to Dementia Jersey. He further stated, “I have always said if I can do anything with photography I would always try and give something back to causes I believe in.” He continued, “I have always aimed to do that so if I ever make a sale I always try to give a percentage back to charity.” Max Corbett, another local artist known for his oil paintings, is also featured. He mentioned that his art “captures the energy of city life.” Commenting on the exhibition, Mr. Corbett remarked, “It is always exciting to show them off and get new people to interact with the work.” The exhibition is open for viewing on Saturday and Sunday, from 10:00 to 17:00 GMT.
