A vessel was successfully removed from a well-known Cornish surfing beach after it ran aground. The yacht, which had been stranded on Polzeath beach for almost 24 hours, was towed clear during the afternoon high tide. A boat crew from Padstow harbourmaster services secured a line to the yacht, while RNLI lifeguards ensured the public maintained a safe distance. The beach was temporarily closed for this recovery effort at approximately 16:00 GMT. Andy Stewart, the Polzeath beach ranger, reported that rescue teams initially contemplated attempting to refloat the vessel during the night but ultimately chose to secure it and await daylight. He commended the RNLI and coastguard for their prompt arrival and for doing “a fantastic job”. Mr. Stewart, who assisted in coordinating the rescue operation, stated: “The yacht was slightly off course and was picked up by the swell, and once the keel had grounded the fate of the boat was sealed.” The vessel has since been transported to Padstow harbour for a safety inspection.
