An Army explosives team has detonated a suspected grenade discovered in the boot of a vehicle. Merseyside Police requested the assistance of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit following the finding on Strand Road in Bootle around 13:10 GMT on Monday. According to the police force, a cordon was established, and multiple residences and commercial premises were evacuated as a precautionary measure. Subsequently, the device was transported to a secure site and rendered harmless. Residents have since been permitted to re-enter their properties. Authorities also stated that the vehicle implicated in the incident was impounded for forensic examination. The police force further stated: “Thank you to members of the public, residents and business owners for your patience while we dealt with this incident.” This detonation occurred after the discovery of two unexploded bombs, also located in Bootle. An unexploded World War Two bomb was found at a location on North Atlantic Avenue on Tuesday, 22 October, and a second device was found on the identical street on Thursday, 24 October.
