Tavernier: Celtic Cup Final Defeat a “Sore One,” Evokes Seville Memories

James Tavernier described the Premier Sports Cup final defeat to Celtic as “sore,” noting that the penalty shoot-out loss recalled memories from the Europa League final a few years prior. “It’s obviously a sore one,” he stated. “It brings flashbacks to the Seville final, losing on penalty kicks when the game is so close.” He elaborated, “These games are decided on small margins and I’m proud of all the boys who step up to take a penalty. It’s one of those things where you either win a shoot-out or you don’t.” Tavernier concluded, “It wasn’t our day but you can take positives out of this game.” He added, “It’s still sore and raw because our aim was to win it.”
