A cyclist recently completed a Halloween-themed bike ride, charting a route that formed the outline of a skeleton across an urban area. Rebecca Laurel, a Leicester resident, concluded the 69-mile (111km) journey on Sunday, completing it in six hours. This skeleton-shaped route is one of several Halloween-inspired designs created by the 25-year-old. An X post by Ms Laurel, which included an image of the route, garnered over 11,000 views. Ms Laurel, who possesses over 12 years of cycling experience and has participated in numerous regional off-road and mountain bike competitions, stated that she had previously designed routes resembling a pumpkin, a ghost, and a witch, prior to developing the skeleton design. She explained her creative process, stating: “There were two main north-to-south roads that I knew I wanted to use for the legs, and then it was just trying to scale everything up so that the head was north of the city centre.” She further elaborated on the route’s specifics: “The start point was the top of the hips and that loop on Soar Valley Way, and then the end was the left hand.” Ms Laurel’s path to form the skeleton involved cycling from the hips, proceeding down to the legs, then through the spine to delineate the ribs, the right arm, and the skull, concluding her ride at the tip of the left arm. Her journey commenced at Fosse Park, traversing the city centre to Soar Valley Way to form the skeleton’s hips, then continuing south to outline the legs, and concluding her ride in Braunstone. Ms Laurel identified one of the most demanding aspects of the ride as repeatedly cycling the same segments to construct the overall route. She explained: “The end of the legs and each rib, you go one way and then turn around and go back the same way, which kind of slows the route down a lot.” She added: “It was a lot of the city centre, so it’s slower and longer than a general ride.” Her next endeavor is focused on Christmas, with plans for a snowman-themed cycling route.
