The establishment of a wood-fired winter sauna on a seaside resort’s beach has received planning approval. This pod, capable of accommodating up to eight individuals, is currently operational close to the Pier Bandstand in Weymouth. Due to its nature as a mobile structure mounted on a trailer, its initial operation proceeded under a 28-day regulation, comparable to that applied to temporary campsites. According to stipulations imposed by Dorset Council, the facility is authorized to operate from November through February 28. A separate hut is planned for the location, designated for use by disabled swimmers during the summer months. For subsequent years, there is a possibility that the operators will be requested to refrain from opening the facility on Remembrance Day and on other occasions when nearby memorials are expected to draw individuals honoring those who perished in conflict. Similar sauna installations have also been established at other coastal resorts within Dorset, such as Swanage and Seatown. For further updates, BBC Dorset is accessible on Facebook, X, or Instagram.
