A charge of manslaughter has been brought against a 12-year-old girl following the death of an 80-year-old man in Leicestershire. Bhim Kohli passed away on 2 September, one day subsequent to an assault at Franklin Park in Braunstone Town as he was walking his dog, Rocky. The juvenile female, whose identity is withheld due to her age, made an appearance earlier at Leicester Youth Court, which convenes at Leicester Magistrates’ Court, and has since been granted bail. Her subsequent court appearance is scheduled for 3 February at Leicester Crown Court. A 15-year-old male was previously charged with the murder of Mr Kohli. He is expected to submit a plea at Leicester Crown Court on Wednesday, with a preliminary trial date established for 17 February. According to Leicestershire Police, the assault took place close to the Bramble Way entrance of the park around 18:30 BST on 1 September. An autopsy determined that Mr Kohli’s death resulted from a neck injury. His family, in a released statement, characterized him as “a loving husband, dad and grandad”. They added, “Bhim loved to laugh.” They further stated, “He was always very happy and talkative, the joker of the family and always loved to outsmart us with a smile.” Due to previous police interaction with the deceased, Leicestershire Police initiated a voluntary referral to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC). Subsequent to additional communication with the IOPC, the police force proceeded with a mandatory referral. An IOPC spokesperson commented, “We will carry out an assessment to decide what further action may be required from us.”
