Law enforcement officials investigating the disappearance and subsequent murder of Kyran Durnin have made public additional images of the schoolboy as they continue to solicit information. Kyran, who was six years old when last observed alive, was reported missing from his residence in Drogheda, County Louth, in August. In October, An Garda Síochána (Irish police) initiated a murder investigation, stating their approach was to consider Kyran as having been missing for two years and presumed deceased. Both a male and a female individual were apprehended on suspicion of murder, subsequently being released without any charges being filed. Additionally, several premises have undergone searches. This past Tuesday, the individual who had been arrested in connection with the suspected murder, identified as 36-year-old Anthony Maguire, was found deceased at his residence in Drogheda. Gardaí stated that they have garnered “extensive support from the public,” and as part of their continuing investigations, fresh photographs of Kyran, captured in June 2022 when he was six years old, have been furnished to the inquiry team. A spokesperson further commented, stating: “An Garda Síochána is aware of the extensive public commentary on this investigation including speculation, rumours and theories on what may have happened to Kyran.” The spokesperson also conveyed: “Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, will be welcomed by the investigation team. This information will be treated in the strictest confidence.” Despite the missing person investigation commencing in August, investigators suspect Kyran’s death may have occurred over two years prior. In 2022, Kyran attended the national [primary] school situated close to his residence in Dundalk. It is understood that officials were informed he was expected to relocate to Northern Ireland and enroll in a different school in Newry. According to reports, school administrators in Dundalk, where Kyran resided with his mother, were informed at the conclusion of the 2022 summer term that he would be going to school across the border; however, this assertion was not substantiated. Last week, law enforcement conducted searches at two residences in Drogheda with the aim of uncovering any details regarding Kyran’s location or the circumstances of his fate. A cadaver dog assisted in the search conducted at one of these properties. The outcomes of these searches have not been disclosed publicly. Drew Harris, the Garda Commissioner, previously remarked that he had not encountered a case of this nature throughout his four-decade career in law enforcement, which spanned both sides of the border.
