Local residents have intervened to ensure the continuation of an annual fireworks display, a tradition spanning five decades, following its cancellation by the initial organizers. The Hull Wyke Round Table, which previously managed the event at Humberdale Farm in Swanland, East Yorkshire, withdrew its involvement last month, citing concerns regarding safety and traffic management. The display typically draws hundreds of attendees, having previously seen attendance figures exceed 5,000 at its peak. Freya Butler, 20, chairwoman of Newport Young Farmers (NYF) and one of the volunteers instrumental in preserving the event, highlighted its importance as a significant fundraiser. She stated: “It’s something you look forward to every year, so it was a bit of a shock when we heard it might not go ahead this year.” “I think it’s really positive that we finally got it back going again. It’s nice to know that it will be happening like normal.” Rubi Hood, another volunteer representing NYF and Raywell Scouts, expressed that this year’s event is “going to be bigger and better than it has ever been”. David Guest, an organizer, explained that the original event’s cancellation was due to a shortage of volunteers, but he expressed satisfaction that the community united to ensure its continuation and voiced hopes for favorable weather conditions on the evening. The fireworks display is scheduled to commence at 17:30 GMT at Humberdale Farm.
