Certain heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) will be prohibited from traversing specific narrow sections of the A595 as a measure to alleviate traffic congestion within a village. Westmorland and Furness Council announced that HGVs exceeding 7.5 tonnes will be prevented from passing through Grizebeck Village and School Road in Kirkby-in-Furness, effective from 13 January for a duration of 18 months. The council further clarified that vehicles providing services to local businesses and properties would retain access to the designated area. Councillor Peter Thornton stated that the restriction is intended to assist in managing “pinch points” along the A595 during the construction of the new £23m single carriageway road, which will connect Chapels and Grizebeck Village. Construction of this one-mile (1.4km) stretch of single carriageway commenced in September and is projected to conclude within two years. The council indicated that the temporary prohibition is expected to “alleviate pressure and ease congestion on narrow sections of the A595 which the creation of a new single-carriageway road will address”. The authority also confirmed its collaboration with haulage companies to ensure their awareness of the upcoming restriction, and that prominent signage will be installed. Furthermore, starting in January, on-site crews will be deployed to prevent HGVs from traversing the affected section. Thornton commented: “We understand the importance of planning and communication in implementing this change, especially for our haulage companies who are crucial to our local economy. “We’ll be working closely with them in the run up to the temporary restrictions and offering support to minimise disruptions and impact on their journeys.” Post navigation Greater Manchester Mayor Labels Northern Rail Services “Embarrassing” Amid Performance Concerns Two Hospitalized Following A90 Road Collision
