Plans are underway for a Christmas festival, previously called off due to Storm Darragh, to be rescheduled for Easter, featuring an encounter between Father Christmas and the Easter Bunny. The Frinton Christmas Festival, initially scheduled for Saturday evening, was cancelled following severe wind and rain across Essex. Organisers expressed that the decision was “heartbreaking” given the extensive planning involved over several months. Wendy Ann Simon, chairwoman of Frinton Chamber of Commerce, stated, “Very reluctantly we had to postpone it, we don’t use the word cancel.” She added, “We’d spent months and months to plan this and it was going to be the biggest one.” The cancellation of the event occurred on Friday, described as being made “with a few tears,” owing to potential public safety risks posed by the severe weather conditions. Nevertheless, the organisers have announced their intention to rearrange the festival for the spring season, aligning it with the Easter period. Ms Simon commented, “We thought we’d wait until the better weather and someone on the committee had a brilliant idea of Father Christmas meets the Easter Bunny.” She further elaborated on the plans, stating, “We’ll have all the Christmas lights back up. Our grotto will be there, Christmas trees, lots of lights and lots of Easter eggs and perhaps people wearing bonnets.”
