A renowned children’s author is assisting a school in establishing a library, aiming to foster a love for reading among its students. Nick Butterworth, 78, the creator of “Percy The Park Keeper,” has contributed to this initiative by auctioning off his artwork to generate funds for Lionwood Infant School in Norwich, Norfolk. The author and illustrator dedicated a day to discussing stories with the students, noting that the children were “enthusiastic for books.” He stated, “This is a project to create a library for the school… they are so enthusiastic for books but it’s hard times.” The infant school aims to collect approximately £5,000 for the establishment of a library. During his visit, Mr. Butterworth expressed that he was “really happy” to provide assistance with their fundraising endeavors. He remarked, “The kids today have been fantastic, I love their responsiveness, just brilliant to be with.” He conveyed his pleasure at witnessing the children’s enthusiasm for books and was “thrilled” to learn he had motivated them to engage in reading. Five-year-old Skye mentioned her enjoyment of reading with her parents and her positive experience during Mr. Butterworth’s visit, stating, “He read Percy The Park keeper – he read my favourite book.” She expressed her anticipation of numerous new books once the school successfully raises sufficient funds for a new library. In the evening, Mr. Butterworth signed books at a fundraising event and also auctioned off some of his original artwork.
