A Romanian court has determined that the human trafficking case against the prominent online personalities Andrew and Tristan Tate is currently not suitable to proceed to trial. On Thursday, the Bucharest Court of Appeals affirmed an objection raised by the brothers, remanding the case to prosecutors for additional examination. This marks the second occasion the court has referred the case back to the prosecution. Andrew Tate, 38, and Tristan Tate, 36, face accusations of human trafficking and establishing an organized criminal group for the sexual exploitation of women. They have vehemently rejected these allegations. In November, the same judicial body identified “irregularities” within their indictment, necessitating prosecutors to revise their legal document. Concurrently, the court excluded multiple items of evidence, ruling certain statements from purported victims as inadmissible. The brothers’ successful appeal on Thursday represents an additional impediment for the prosecution. The prosecution has alleged that the dual UK-US citizens exploited women through an adult content enterprise, which is claimed to have functioned as a criminal organization. The indictment, released in June last year, also named two female Romanian associates and specified seven alleged victims. Andrew Tate, who identifies as a misogynist, had previously been prohibited from social media platforms due to the expression of these views. The former kickboxer has amassed millions of online followers, frequently combining political commentary with displays of an extravagant lifestyle. Having resided in Romania for several years after his previous base in the UK, he issued a statement following Thursday’s favorable ruling: “They’ve had years to build their case – years to tear apart my life, target everyone I know, and even subpoena the mother of my child. And yet, they have nothing.” He further stated: “This is all a lie, and I will fight to the very end to expose it and prove my innocence.” His brother, Tristan, commented: “If there isn’t enough evidence to go to trial after all of these years, that means there never was enough evidence.” DIICOT, Romania’s public prosecutor’s office, had not yet provided a statement regarding the decision. In August, the office announced the initiation of a second criminal investigation into the Tate brothers, concerning fresh allegations of trafficking of minors, sexual intercourse with a minor, and money laundering. During the same month, a Romanian judge ordered Andrew Tate to be placed under house arrest, while his brother was subjected to special judicial control. Furthermore, UK police are pursuing the extradition of the Tate brothers in connection with accusations of rape and human trafficking. The Tate brothers refute these accusations. They also face charges of tax evasion in the UK. On Wednesday, a British court determined that police are authorized to confiscate over £2 million from the Tate brothers due to their failure to pay tax on £21 million in earnings from their online ventures.
