The Kansas City Chiefs maintained their undefeated status following a 30-24 overtime victory against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes overcame a late injury concern during the game, contributing to his team’s continued unbeaten run this season. Mahomes delivered a strong performance, throwing for 291 yards and three touchdowns without an interception. Running back Kareem Hunt secured the two-yard game-winning touchdown, bringing the Chiefs’ home record to 8-0. Mahomes, a three-time Super Bowl champion, had previously sustained an ankle injury in a win against the Las Vegas Raiders the previous week. He was observed limping again after evading pressure to complete a touchdown pass to Samaje Perine, which leveled the score at 17-17 early in the fourth quarter. The 29-year-old required assistance to reach the sideline. However, following treatment, he re-entered the game and connected with DeAndre Hopkins for a five-yard touchdown pass, giving the reigning Super Bowl champions a 24-17 lead with four minutes and 17 seconds left on the clock. Tampa Bay responded as quarterback Baker Mayfield took control, orchestrating a drive that resulted in a touchdown by Ryan Miller. The Buccaneers chose not to attempt a two-point conversion for the lead, and the subsequent extra-point kick tied the game at 24-24. Kansas City’s final offensive drive in regulation did not produce any points. Nevertheless, they received the ball to commence overtime, with Mahomes guiding them to the decisive score. This marked the Buccaneers’ fourth loss in their last five games. Post-game, Mahomes minimized the severity of his ankle injury, stating his expectation to be fit when the Chiefs host the Denver Broncos on Sunday. “You always fear the worst,” he said. “But as I got some time it started feeling better. We’ve got a short week, but we’ll rehab it up and I’ll be ready to go next week.”
