Residents were advised by NELC to exclusively utilize licensed taxi services during this festive period. Councillor Ron Shepherd stated, “The public’s safety is always our number one priority and we want to reiterate how dangerous getting into an unlicensed taxi can be.” He additionally encouraged individuals to safeguard their beverages and promptly report any spiking incidents. NELC cautioned residents against using unlicensed taxis, citing “significant public safety concerns” because such vehicles might not be safe or roadworthy. NELC provided guidance on safely using taxis during the Christmas and New Year period. The council also urged individuals consuming alcohol over the holidays to monitor their drinks. Furthermore, they recommended that anyone suspecting they have been spiked should seek immediate medical attention and report the event to the police.
