High Peak Borough Council, a Derbyshire authority, has announced it will provide complimentary parking in all its car parks on every Saturday throughout December. This measure is intended to enhance Christmas trade in the area. The council stated that this program aims to assist both shoppers and local businesses during the busy period leading up to Christmas and New Year. Additionally, parking will be free of charge for the Christmas lights switch-on events scheduled for Buxton on 16 November, Glossop on 23 November, and New Mills on 30 November. However, the council noted that existing restrictions on parking duration will continue to apply. Deputy council leader Damien Greenhalgh commented: “The festive season is fast approaching and we know that offering free parking is always welcomed by our residents and visitors and gives our businesses and seasonal events a boost.” He added: “So I’m delighted to announce that we’ll be providing that again this year.” Greenhalgh further stated: “The High Peak has a wealth of shops, restaurants and visitor attractions and the festive season is a very important period for them.” He concluded: “We hope the added bonus of free parking will encourage more people to make our borough their first choice for buying gifts and treats and socialising with family and friends this year.”
