A yellow weather warning for snow and ice has been issued for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. The Met Office stated that wintry showers and icy patches are expected to affect the county between 12:00 GMT on Thursday and 10:00 GMT on Friday. Passengers have been advised to check roads and railways for potential disruptions before traveling. The areas anticipated to be impacted include Thorney, Eye, Stibbington, and the northern part of Cambridgeshire. The Met Office indicated that icy patches are predicted to form on some untreated roads, pavements, and cycle paths during Thursday evening and overnight into Friday morning, as temperatures are set to drop below freezing, particularly after any showers. Its guidance suggests leaving the house “at least five minutes earlier than normal” to avoid rushing and to utilize pavements along main roads, which are likely to be less slippery. Cyclists have been recommended to stay on main roads that are more probable to have received treatment. Cambridge Fire and Rescue Service has also offered advice for the cold spell. It stated: “Make sure to clear your windscreen fully, drive to the conditions of the road, check your lights are working on your vehicle and make sure your tyres are in good condition.” For news from the East of England, follow BBC Beds, Herts & Bucks, BBC Cambridgeshire, BBC Essex, BBC Norfolk, BBC Northamptonshire, or BBC Suffolk on X, Instagram, and Facebook.
