The second seasonal encounter between Edinburgh rivals Hearts and Hibernian is scheduled for Sunday. Grant Scott’s Hibs team is eager to rectify their previous 4-0 defeat at Easter Road from earlier in the current term. This weekend, Hearts will serve as the host team. Reflecting on the four-goal defeat, Hibs boss Scott stated, “Disappointment is the only word I can use.” He added, “We strongly believe we didn’t get anywhere close to the level we can and Hearts, to their credit, took full advantage. “Hopefully we won’t see a repeat of that this weekend.”” Conversely, Hearts anticipates a similar outcome to that previous match, which manager Eva Olid characterized as “so special.” She further commented, “But this time to win here, in our own stadium, would be even more special,”. Before their September encounter, the two teams had demonstrated comparable performance levels. During the previous season, Hibs secured victories in three out of four matches, with results of 2-0, 2-1, and 1-0. Hearts claimed a 2-0 win in the remaining fixture. Subsequent to that period, both clubs engaged in significant player transfers between their squads during the summer window. Kathleen McGovern and Ciara Grant transferred from Hearts to Hibs, while Naomi Powell made the move in the opposite direction. Hearts, however, have experienced a more favorable start to the season, presently occupying third place in the top flight, sharing points with Rangers and trailing leaders Glasgow City by just one point. Hibs currently hold fifth position, trailing their Edinburgh rivals by four points, Celtic by three points, and the top spot by five points. They have already secured points against last season’s top two teams, having drawn with both Celtic and Rangers this season. Furthermore, they have advanced to the quarter-finals of the SWPL Cup, where they are set to compete against Aberdeen for a place in the final. Eilidh Adams and McGovern have been performing exceptionally for Hibs in recent fixtures, with McGovern notably scoring a hat-trick in a 4-1 cup win against Partick Thistle. Although she had a subdued performance in her last appearance, her upcoming match against her former club makes her a player to observe. Hearts have demonstrated a diverse scoring ability, but Bayley Hutchison, who was last season’s SWPL top goalscorer, is a key player to watch. The game is scheduled to commence at 16:10 GMT and will be broadcast live on BBC Alba, in addition to the BBC Sport website, app, and iPlayer. Furthermore, live text updates for all six Sunday matches will be available from 11:50 on the BBC Sport website and app. On Monday evening, viewers can catch all the goals and highlights from the weekend’s SWPL action on Sportscene at 19:00 on the BBC Scotland channel.
