Celtic’s Champions League fixture in Zagreb initiates a demanding sequence of two significant games for Brendan Rodgers’ squad over five days. Although the immediate focus is on European competition, the League Cup final against Rangers on Sunday is a prominent upcoming event. This situation presents a team selection dilemma for manager Rodgers in the Croatian capital tonight, as noted by former Celtic midfielder Barry Robson. Robson stated on the BBC’s Scottish football podcast: “It’s a hard one because they’ve got a cup final coming on Sunday. That’s what Brendan’s dilemma will be.” He added, “You can see the way they’ve rotated, especially when they’ve played league games and gone into European matches.” Robson continued, “It’s a slightly different rotation just now with the cup final coming because Celtic want to go and win the trophy as well. So it’s too hard to call the way Brendan is going to call it.” He further commented, “It’s probably his hardest decision to date of who he goes with and who he rotates because they want to really put a marker down and qualify for the Champions League, but you need to win the cup final.” Robson concluded, “It’s going to be a tough decision for him. We don’t know who’s carrying a wee knock or a niggle. There might be some of that coming.” He also mentioned, “I think your standouts, Callum McGregor plays every game. [Reo] Hatate, there’s a few different ways they can go. It’ll be interesting to see.”
