A vocal group that impressed judges on the popular television program Britain’s Got Talent is now hoping to achieve the top spot on the music charts this Christmas season with their recently launched festive single. The BIG Sing, an inclusive singing ensemble comprising 10 choirs located across Essex, released “If Love Could Just Be Love” earlier in the current month to support its SOUL charity. The track, characterized as “what the world needs to hear right now,” promptly ascended the iTunes chart, appearing alongside artists such as Mariah Carey. Gemma Francis, who serves as both director and co-founder of the BIG Sing, stated: “We made it to Number 21 in less than 24 hours, which was amazing. This song is so special to us.” She further commented: “The song is what the world needs to hear right now. If love could just be love then the world would just be such a better place.” “Our whole message is about promoting love, faith and joy, and our prayer is that this song will make a massive impact in the societies we live in.” “Music is so powerful, it can help people overcome isolation, depression, loneliness, and illnesses. We are so proud of the choir.” The BIG Sing, established in Witham, recently received a National Entertainment Award recognizing its Community Impact. The group gained broader recognition following an appearance by one of its choirs on Britain’s Got Talent, where they impressed judges Simon Cowell and Amanda Holden. Singers from the group, originating from Essex, London, Kent, and the Midlands, have shared stages with artists such as Ellie Goulding and Tom Walker, and have toured with Leona Lewis. The ensemble aims to ensure singing is as inclusive as possible, with its choirs frequently performing in settings like care homes, schools, nurseries, and for individuals with disabilities. Linda Allen, a member of the Maldon choir, expressed her hope that the new single, penned by the group’s co-founder and musical director, Howard Francis, will achieve the Christmas number one position. She stated: “It would be our dream and we would absolutely love it because this song is inspirational for everyone.” “Mariah Carey has just overtaken us so we keep saying ‘Don’t let Mariah beat us’ but we just can’t believe it and we are totally gobsmacked.” “We believe in this so much and what the BIG Sing does that it would be so wonderful if this message could get to number one.” For updates on Essex news, follow BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram, and X.
