The new Wisley Lane Bridge, spanning the A3, has commenced operations for traffic. This one-mile (1.6km) section is anticipated to enhance travel along Wisley Lane, towards Wisley Village and Woking, and will also facilitate access to the RHS Wisley Gardens. Daniel Kittredge, National Highways senior project manager, described this as a “significant milestone” in the ongoing work to upgrade junction 10 of the M25. Previous access points both off and onto the A3 at the old Wisley Lane have been permanently closed. To utilize the new bridge, drivers on the A3 southbound must take the first left turn located between the A3 slip road exit and Ockham Lane North (B2039). For those traveling northbound on the A3, access to Wisley is provided via the M25 junction 10 gyratory, requiring a turnaround to proceed southbound. This structure is one of two new bridges constructed this year as part of the project. The new Clearmount bridge, designed for pedestrians, cyclists, and horseriders over the motorway, is scheduled to open at a later date. The 61m (200ft) long, 450-tonne steel and concrete bridge replaces an earlier structure, which was demolished in March. Its construction took place off-site before it was jacked into position on 2 and 3 November. Mr. Kittredge stated that the two bridges are expected to “help reduce congestion, create a smoother flow of traffic and provide safer journeys for thousands every day”. National Highways has advised motorists to “take care through the junction” due to the altered configuration. The organization also indicated that additional new bridges are slated for installation in 2025 as part of the continuing project. The scope of work further includes the restoration of heathland and the planting of new trees and woodland in other areas. Two additional full weekend closures of the M25 are anticipated to occur in 2025.
