A coroner has determined that the death of five-year-old Kelan Logan-Derench, who drowned after falling into a swimming pool during a holiday in Egypt last year, was accidental. Kelan, from Sutton Coldfield, was on his inaugural trip abroad. He was discovered on 25 November at the bottom of the hotel pool, where his family was accommodated, without his armbands. The inquest hearing occurred on 28 October, with a formal written record subsequently released. The official record specified that Kelan was vacationing at the Mirette Hotel, located in Hurghada on Egypt’s east coast. Following his retrieval from the water, he was transported to the El Nile hospital, where his death was confirmed. Louise Hunt, the senior coroner for Birmingham and Solihull, concluded that his death was an accidental drowning. An online fundraising initiative, established by a family friend soon after his passing, indicated that Kelan was on holiday with his mother, elder sister and grandmother and passed away merely one day after their arrival. This page successfully collected nearly £20,000 to facilitate the repatriation of his body to the UK and cover funeral expenses.
