Telecommunications provider Sure has announced the completion of its acquisition of competitor Airtel Vodafone in the Channel Islands. This development follows the States of Guernsey’s agreement to temporarily suspend competition law, thereby enabling Sure to purchase rival Airtel Vodafone. Sure indicated that the transaction was “signalling an investment of £48m in building a new world-class 5G mobile network”. Alistair Beak, the chief executive of Sure Group, committed to delivering “significant improvements” in “connectivity, speeds and coverage, as well as value for money through innovative products and services”. He further stated that Sure would be “working together” with Airtel Vodafone “and leveraging their skills and experience to provide our customers with exceptional service”. Beak also conveyed that Airtel customers would be able to continue with their current plans for a duration of up to three years. He added that there would be no immediate changes for customers of either Airtel Vodafone or Sure, “as the two companies will continue to operate separately”.
