A pub is establishing a dog-friendly haven during the Bonfire Night weekend, aiming to offer owners and their pets a tranquil environment shielded from fireworks. The Inn at Shipley, located near Wolverhampton, plans to arrange additional dog-friendly seating and offer dog treats for its “bonfire-less bash” scheduled for Saturday. According to pub manager Kayleigh Blake, her staff aimed to organize an event where patrons would not need to “worry about the fact that their dog would be cowering”. The establishment intends to collect funds for two local animal charities, Monarch’s Mutts Dog Rescue and Wings and Paws Rescue, through a raffle and its unique “floating lemons” challenge. Ms Blake mentioned she was married on Bonfire Night, which she considers her “favourite holiday of the year”, but noted the annual event has become more difficult for her since acquiring a pet. “I’ve been a dog owner for the past decade and it’s really tough,” she informed BBC Radio WM. Ms Blake stated that Matt Anslow, the pub’s deputy manager, whose dog Rosie frequently visits the establishment, conceived the concept for Saturday’s event. The pub plans to expand the number of dog-accommodating tables from five to 15. Regarding the floating lemons challenge, customers will receive a complimentary pint if they manage to balance a 20p piece on the fruit, which is submerged in a bowl of water. “I’ve worked here for longer than I care to tell you, but I’ve never seen it done. I’m yet to give out that free pint,” Ms Blake further stated.
