Morecambe’s manager, Derek Adams, previously faced Frank Lampard when their team competed against Chelsea in 2021. Derek Adams, manager of Morecambe, has expressed that another visit to Chelsea represents “fabulous news” for everyone involved with the Lancashire club. The team is set to travel to Stamford Bridge in early January for an FA Cup match, having been drawn against the Premier League giants in the third round. This fixture is a repeat for the financially challenged Shrimps of a 2021 tie at the same stage, which Chelsea won 4-0. Adams informed BBC Radio Lancashire, “We’ve been able to get a money-spinner for the club, which is fabulous for the supporters, the players and the staff as well.” The game four years ago took place during the Covid-affected season, with no spectators permitted inside the stadium. Although none of Chelsea’s starting XI from that day are still with the club, Adams understands the challenge his side will encounter; they are currently 22nd in League Two following a 2-2 draw at Tranmere Rovers. He stated, “There will probably be a big difference in the playing squad.” Adams added, “Last time, I think their playing squad was worth £280 million, it’ll probably be double that this time. But that will be enjoyable for everyone involved.”
