The reopening of a swimming pool, which was previously forced to close due to damage, has been postponed once more following the discovery of a new issue. The pool at Kingfisher Leisure Centre in Sudbury, Suffolk, initially sustained a damaged glass panel above its roof in August. Subsequent identification of further damage led to an earlier delay in its planned reopening. Babergh District Council had aimed for a December reopening; however, they have now indicated that a new problem necessitates additional structural work, which is projected to be completed by mid-February. Laura Smith, Green Party cabinet member for thriving communities, stated that the council was “devastated” by the “deeply frustrating” situation. She remarked, “We announced a reopening date with full confidence, and it was unexpected when the survey said this additional work was needed.” Smith added, “While it is deeply frustrating that we now have a delay, it is unavoidable. “We want the pool to reopen as soon as possible, but we have to put people’s health and safety first.” The council has not provided specific details regarding the new problem, other than confirming that the issue was identified during the process of conducting additional repairs and surveys. A new definitive opening date has also not been announced. It was stated that these problems have compelled the council to “examine a number of long-term options” for the glass roof, with proposals expected to be presented in due course. Warren Smyth, chief executive of Abbeycroft, the organization that manages the centre, offered an apology to affected customers. He commented, “We’re disappointed we can’t open in December as planned, and we know how frustrating this will continue to be for our pool users.” Smyth added, “We look forward to the repairs being completed, putting the disruption firmly behind us, and welcoming back swimmers after all work is completed in February.” The council also indicated that the pool’s wave machine would be temporarily out of service when the pool eventually reopens. All other services within the leisure centre have continued to operate. Post navigation Statistical Insights for Rangers vs Dundee Norwich City Footballers Make Holiday Hospital Visit
