Ian Blackburn expressed considerable satisfaction following the successful rescue of a pregnant cow that had become trapped in his swimming pool. Personnel from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service were dispatched to a residence in Ketton, Rutland, on Monday, after reports of a cow being in the swimming pool. Mr. Blackburn stated that he was conversing with a friend by phone when a neighbor notified him of an unforeseen presence at his property. The young cow has since been returned to its home and is reported to be “fit and well.” Mr. Blackburn recounted that what began as a typical Monday quickly became eventful following the unexpected arrival. He recounted, “The doorbell went – I was on the phone at the time to a friend – and Andy the farmer was at the door.” “As I opened the door he said ‘have you looked in your pool recently?’, and I said ‘no, why?’, and he said ‘well, there’s a cow in it’,” Mr. Blackburn continued. He added, “It’s not every day that you spend three or four hours trying to recover a beast from the pool.” Following the draining of the pool by firefighters and the use of a harness to extract the animal, a veterinarian examined the cow to confirm the health of both her and her calf prior to her return home.
