Manchester City’s academy products, Lily Murphy and Codie Thomas, have officially signed their initial professional contracts with the team. Murphy has been a consistent presence in training sessions with the Manchester City first team throughout the current season. The 18-year-old Murphy has participated in five matches this season, having first appeared during the 3-0 victory against Paris FC in the Women’s Champions League qualifying rounds. As a forward, she also entered the field as a substitute in November’s 4-0 Women’s Super League triumph over Tottenham, held at Etihad Stadium. Murphy expressed her sentiments, stating, “It’s an amazing feeling for me and my family. Growing up supporting City, it’s a different feeling. The club have been so supportive and given me so much advice. I’ve learned a lot. They have really helped me on my journey.” Thomas, also 18, who plays as a defender, marked her first senior appearance in the Women’s Champions League group stage win against St Polten. She also accompanied the squad during their pre-season preparations. Thomas commented, “Being an academy player and coming through, I’ve always felt valued. Finally getting on the pitch and representing the club at senior level is great.”
