Monaco has issued a condemnation regarding the “unacceptable” racist abuse aimed at Wilfried Singo. This abuse occurred after the defender inflicted a facial injury upon Paris St-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma during their French League 1 fixture on Wednesday. The incident involved Singo’s boot making contact with Donnarumma as he attempted to clear the Italy international while advancing on goal. Donnarumma sustained a facial cut that necessitated 10 staples for closure. The injury happened when Singo’s boot struck him as the defender tried to leap over the rapidly approaching Italy international during a goal-scoring opportunity, which took place during Monaco’s 4-2 home loss to PSG. Singo, who had received a booking earlier in the match, did not face further disciplinary action for the collision, which resulted in the goalkeeper’s departure from the field. Singo subsequently offered an apology to Donnarumma, stating: “My gesture was obviously not intentional but I was able to see afterwards that he had a significant injury to his face.” The 23-year-old Ivory Coast international, who transferred to Monaco from Italian club Torino in 2023, became the target of racial abuse on social media following the conclusion of the match. Monaco stated that the club “firmly condemns the unacceptable racist comments” and emphasized that “such behaviour has no place in sport, either on or off the pitch.” The Ligue 1 club also indicated that it would extend its “full support” to the defender. Following the match, Singo and Donnarumma conversed, and the Italian player was able to return to Paris with his team-mates. Paris St-Germain announced that Donnarumma is scheduled for “medical examinations” on Thursday and will “have to rest for several days.” Post navigation Supporters’ Views on Leicester City’s 3-1 Win Against West Ham United Visual Highlights from Paul vs. Tyson and the Taylor-Serrano Boxing Match
