The Environment Agency has issued a severe flood warning for the River Nene, indicating a danger to life. This warning applies to the segment of the river extending from Elton to Wansford in Cambridgeshire, encompassing Yarwell in Northamptonshire. According to the Environment Agency, the warning was prompted by the commencement of flooding at Yarwell Mill Country Park, resulting in deep water. Residents of the country park received evacuation advice on Wednesday, with North Northamptonshire Council arranging accommodation. The Yarwell Mill Country Park Residents Association reported that emergency services commenced their arrival around 21:00 GMT on Wednesday to assist with resident evacuations. Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue indicated that the country park accommodates nearly 300 individuals, all of whom “have been advised to evacuate.” The service also noted that numerous roads surrounding the location are submerged, and boats have been deployed at the park to assist any residents requiring rescue. Jason Smithers, leader of North Northamptonshire Council, commented that the site’s evacuation was “well-rehearsed,” given that residents had previously needed to vacate their homes earlier in the current year. A rest centre has been established by the authority at Oundle Library for the residents of Yarwell Mill. Emergency services confirmed that the Billing Aquadrome site continues to be inaccessible because of flooding. They further advised that individuals displaced from this location should refrain from returning until instructed by the site management company.
