Police have announced that an individual has been apprehended in South Yorkshire on suspicion of offenses linked to the illicit trade of wild birds’ eggs. South Yorkshire Police confirmed that the 57-year-old man was taken into custody on Thursday, following the execution of a warrant by officers in Thurnscoe. A force spokesperson stated that this warrant formed part of a broader operation, coordinated across the UK by the National Wildlife Crime Unit (NWCU), which aims to combat international organized illegal wildlife trade, specifically targeting the taking, possession, and commercial exchange of wild birds’ eggs. They further added that the arrested man has since been released on bail. The operation conducted in Thurnscoe involved a collaborative effort among various teams within the South Yorkshire force. Police indicated that the NWCU collaborated with the force’s motorcycle and rural crime team, neighbourhood officers, and other specialist personnel, including search officers and digital media investigators. The operation is “ongoing,” and officers have issued an appeal for anyone with information concerning wildlife or rural crime to come forward.
