An arts venue plans to utilize its annual pantomime performance to generate funds for individuals impacted by severe flooding that occurred in a local town over the past weekend. The Regal Tenbury, situated in Tenbury Wells, Worcestershire, will offer tickets for the opening night of “CinderElla” in December on a “pay what you can” basis. All profits from these sales are designated to assist businesses and homeowners affected by the inundation. Katy Rogers, chair of trustees for The Regal, indicated that this initiative also provides additional benefits to the community. “As well as fundraising, you’re also giving people an opportunity to go to something that they perhaps couldn’t have afforded to do before,” she commented. Individuals are encouraged to contribute any sum between £10 and £100, according to their financial capacity. A spokesperson for the theatre noted that tickets typically cost £20. Ms. Rogers explained that the collected funds would be directed to a local steering group, which would be responsible for allocating the money to areas of greatest need. Tenbury experienced significant damage from Storm Bert over the weekend, following the rise of the Kyre Brook, which led to the collapse of a wall. Residential properties and commercial establishments were inundated as water flowed rapidly through the streets, resulting in overflowing drains. The Regal itself sustained less damage from the floods compared to other structures in the town and resumed operations on Monday, providing access to toilets and hot beverages for those requiring assistance. Ms. Rogers observed that the town’s residents were collaborating in their recovery efforts. “There’s devastation but there’s also resilience – people really trying to help and support each other,” she stated. She added, “Somebody described it as almost like a ‘Blitz spirit’, so people coming together, I think, is the hope that you can take out of [it].” “CinderElla” is scheduled to run from December 11th to 31st. A spokesperson for the theatre confirmed that tickets, including those for the opening performance, are available for purchase online or by contacting their box office.
