Adam Beard, a Wales lock with 58 caps, will be unavailable for the commencement of the 2025 Six Nations tournament, having sustained a knee injury. The Ospreys player has been medically ruled out for a period of three months. He suffered the injury during Wales’ 52-20 defeat against Australia. Beard, 28, will consequently miss, at a minimum, Wales’ initial two fixtures: an away match against France in Paris and another against Italy in Rome. His unavailability will also impact the Ospreys, as he is set to miss their entire upcoming block of matches. This schedule encompasses the start of their European Challenge Cup campaign and the traditional Christmas and New Year derbies. Ospreys head coach Toby Booth commented on the situation, stating, “He’s out for at least three months. It’s a big kick in the teeth because he’s such an important part of what we do.” Booth further elaborated, “To not have him around for Europe is difficult, but it provides an opportunity for other boys to step up.” He also added, “James Fender is back which is good and Rhys Davies isn’t too far away so we just have to weather the storm for a little bit.” Beard, who held the distinction of being the most experienced player in Wales’ autumn squad, was released back to the Ospreys following the injury, which saw him limp off the field after just seven minutes during the match against the Wallabies.
