An individual has been arrested after over 56,000 bird eggs were confiscated during a series of law enforcement actions. On Thursday, officers from Essex Police visited a property located in Benfleet, Essex. This action was undertaken as part of ongoing initiatives to combat the illicit trafficking of wild bird eggs. This operation stemmed from an inquiry into the illicit acquisition and distribution of comparable eggs that occurred in Norway in June 2023. Law enforcement officials stated that a 62-year-old man, who had been taken into custody on suspicion of unlawful possession of wild bird eggs, has since been granted bail until January 25, 2025. The police force further indicated that “more than a dozen” arrests and subsequent charges have also been executed in Norway.
