The animated characters Wallace and Gromit featured as special guests on Saturday’s broadcast of Strictly Come Dancing, an event co-host Claudia Winkleman described as the “single best thing that’s ever happened to me”. The pair, consisting of Gromit the dog and Wallace, the inventor with a fondness for cheese, participated through a “video link” to present the terms and conditions before viewers could cast their votes for their preferred celebrity dancer. When Winkleman connected “live” to Wallace’s residence, he was still in the shower, prompting Gromit to intervene and resolve the situation. Wallace and Gromit are scheduled to appear next on BBC One on Christmas Day in the newest Aardman production, Vengeance Most Fowl. From their home studio, adorned with a silvery disco ball, a shimmering purple rainbow backdrop, and a large cup o’ cha cha cha on the desk, Gromit filled in for Wallace by playing a “practice tape” of the inventor reciting the voting terms and conditions. Wallace subsequently entered the room, taking charge while sporting a remarkably large, sparkling red bow tie as an accessory to his standard attire. Predictably, an incident involving Wallace occurred; his seat descended behind the desk partway through his recitation of the conditions. “Best of luck to all the couples,” Wallace exclaimed, giving a thumbs up as he peered over the desk, while Gromit displayed a score paddle marked with “7”. Vengeance Most Fowl will feature the reappearance of the antagonist penguin Feathers McGraw, who originally debuted in 1993’s The Wrong Trousers, as he pursues retribution against the pair. This Aardman Animations stop-motion movie is scheduled for broadcast at 18:10 GMT on Christmas Day and will also be accessible on BBC iPlayer. Copyright 2024 BBC. All rights reserved.
